Keegan has been weightlifting since he was in middle school. Initially focused on powerlifting for sports applications, his experience grew with athletics and continued into college when he discovered CrossFit in 2008. He helped found the non-profit military affiliate Pathfinder CrossFit. During this time, he received is CrossFit Level 1, Gymnastics, and Endurance certifications while also studying Applied Physiology for his undergraduate degree. After graduating and commissioning as an aviation officer in the United States Army, Keegan continued his passion for weightlifting through initial entry rotary wing flight training. It wasn’t until moving to Colorado, meeting Coach Mychael and integrating with the community at CrossFit 719 and Elite Barbell Club that his self-study and subsequent performance increases truly began. In September 2016, Keegan began lifting exclusively under Mychael’s tutelage and coaching. Competing in his first USAW sanctioned meet in November 2016, as an 85kg lifter, Keegan posted a 108kg Snatch and 121kg C&J. Thus begging the question, “Does thou even hoist?” Over the span of the following year, Keegan has stayed disciplined and diligent in his training under Mychael. As of November 2017, in training, Keegan has posted a 120kg Snatch and 143kg C&J. As his career continues to take him to different locations and pose new, varying challenges to his training, Keegan has stayed true to Coach Mychael’s regimen and the proof is in the pudding.
Brookelynn Buerkley is 16 years old and very active, participating in many sports at her high school and striving to maintain a 4.0 gpa. With those factors she sometimes finds it difficult to manage her time and to complete 3 workouts a week, but somehow, she has made time for it. When asked how she finds the time Brookelyenn said "I like to make times for things I genuinely enjoy, and weightlifting is definitely at the top of my list". Brookelynn joined the team after she attended a weightlifting seminar in MT put on by Elite Barbell Club. She has grown immensely as an athlete and qualified for youth nationals in her first competition. "I am proud to say am apart of Elite Barbell Club. I am thankful to have this opportunity where I can pursue the thing I love to do most!"
Everett is 23 years old and has been weightlifting since high school but has focused Olympic weightlifting for the past year. He started Crossfit 2 years ago while attending the Air Force Academy. Post graduation, he was stationed as a Casual at the Air Force Academy and was able to follow Mychael's programming 5 days a week where he was able to reach his long time goal of 91kg C&J and 70kg Snatch. Once he moved away to pilot training, he took the opportunity to focus on his training, specifically how he approaches his life outside of lifts. After eating more clean and putting more effort into his training, in just 3 months, he was able to increase his front squat 23%, C&J PR of 105kg, and 80kg PR of Snatch. While he hasn't been in a competition yet, he hopes to compete in the next year. He said, "If you want to get the most of training, you have to the work in and outside the gym. Consistency, consistency, consistency. A little effort goes a long ways. Thanks to Mychael for emphasizing technique and the importance of all aspects of being a good weightlifter."
