State Games 2017 Recap
What another amazing showing from the growing Elite Barbell Club! This is the second time our club has competed at state games; last year we were just putting together the club! Our good friend and inspiring announcer, Red, announced us as Elite Functional Fitness Barbell Club only a few times before shortening it! Last year we had six athletes, this year we had seven (only one athlete repeated). This year we had matching shirts, a huge cheering section, and had more support in the warmup area than we knew what to do with. THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO CAME OUT!!
We are growing and getting strong!
Brandon was our first competitor on the platform. This was his third meet, and he PRed by 13 kilos!! He went 76/96/172. He has been training really hard and consistently and it shows! His confidence on the platform in each one of his lifts is outstanding.
Tyler was our second athlete putting up numbers for Elite Barbell Club. This was her first meet, as she recently came over to Olympic Weightlifting from Powerlifting. We are so excited to have her apart of the team! She is learningto control the bar well and is beginning to move like a weightlifter. Tyler went 35/47/83 hitting all of her lifts in the snatch and the clean and jerk!
Cole competed with Elite Barbell Club for his first meet back after shoulder surgery. Recovery is never easy and neither is stepping back on the platform after being gone for so long. Cole hit his second clean and jerk at 135. Being able to step back on the platform with a good attitude after missing snatch attempts is the difference between good athletes and great athletes. Each time Cole stepped up to the bar, you could see the determination in his face. We can’t wait to see how a little more practice and control will really compliment his strength!
Haley was our first lifter on Sunday, and this was also her first meet. She ate breakfast, weighed in with shoes and a hoodie on and was still under weight (by a lot!). Haley went 5 for 6 getting 56/74/130. Haley took fourth in a very competitive weight class. She said that this meet was a big confidence boost, as her technique starts to get dialed in this girl is going to take off!
Jon and Gabe were our last lifters on Sunday, both master’s athletes, they put up some competition PRs and both took home metals. Jon went 5 for 6, hitting 75/96/171. This was a 5 kilo competition PR for him! The fight on his cleans and the lock out above his head made the difference this meet. Jon walked away with gold! Gabe hit 90/115/205 for an 11 kilo competition PR. He took home a second place finish!
As we look forward to another year of gains I want to wish a huge good luck to Coach Mychael who is going to Miami this next weekend to compete at the American Open Series 2. This will be his second national meet and has been training hard. Go watch him on the live stream at usaw.com, he lifts Friday at 1pm Colorado time.
A big thank you to all of our athletes who competed this weekend, you all did amazing! I am so proud of the strength you display and the fight you all posses. This is not an easy sport and we are so encouraged to have you with us!!
